Magnificent Antique Limerick Lace Bridal Shawl

Product Code: Antique Limerick Lace Fichu
Availability: 1

This is a stunning antique fichu or small triangular shaped shawl which I believe to be handmade Limerick Lace. It is of exquisite quality and likely to be from the late Victorian or Edwardian period. It has obviously been used very little and stored very carefully as the condition is excellent and would not only look stunning as an accessory for any bride, but could be used again for special occasions and be an heirloom to hand down the generations! If respected and looked after carefully, this beautiful and very collectable piece will reward you for years and years to come and honour the skills of yet another anonymous lacemaker from over one hundred years ago!

  • The fichu is entirely handmade with needlerun lace and demonstrates a variety of filling stitches with very fine threads. This shawl will have taken a phenomenal number of skilful lacemaking hours to complete!
  • The design is floral and leafy and determines the beautiful outline shape of the shawl all the way around its edges
  • The fichu ties at the front sometimes known as lappets, can be left loose or tied
  • The colour amazingly for an article of this age, is soft white
  • The condition is near excellent. I have made a couple of very minor repairs and a repair to a 4mm hole near the bust on the left tie shown on the last picture but all are largely indiscernible
  • The measurements are: 13ins at the deepest point at the back, 60ins across the whole shawl from the end of each tie to the other and the bottom of the ties graduate down to 1.5ins wide at the ends

This is an exquisite, one-off piece that will look particularly beautiful against a strapless, open-backed or plain fabric gown of any theme!
